    OT DIY driver gasket

    Hello all! Need some advice on gasket material. Picked up some Tad 4002's and was wondering what some of your favorite materials for gaskets are. The original seems to be paper and one is worn more than the other. Also any tips on removing the original ones would be great. I don't want to get any of the removed paper in the screen. Thanks for any advice!

    Check your local auto parts store, or motorcycle repair shop. 2-stroke tuners often have a wide range of thicknesses of compressed fiber gasket material at their disposal. Fine port tuning/timing of 2-strokes often involves changing the relative height of the cylinder/s by changing the thickness of the cylinder base gasket. This almost always involves custom, hand cut gaskets.

    Auto zone and similar stores generally have at least some gasket material on hand for cutting your own. I would go with a compressed fiber material over cork or rubberized cork. cork compresses too much and can shrink over time and humidity changes. Although, i would probably put my emphasis on finding a thickness as close as possible to what was used originally more than specific material.

    I'd just hold the end of the shop-vac hose nearby while i picked and scraped the old gaskets away.

    Thanks Guys!!! Now I have to figure out the original gasket thickness.... Tad resources seem to be few and far between... Bowtie you even know and play with 2 strokes....Braaap on, nothing like riding a chainsaw!!!

    Love me some 2-stroke. Problem is i'm gettin a bit old to be playing with those kinds of toys the way they really like to be played with. I just don't heal fast enough anymore. Maybe there's another vintage performance snowmobile in my future.

    This is the last beast i sorted out. 1986 Honda TXR-250-R. Chainsaw on steroids would be a very good analogy. Every moving part was replaced, or in some way re-manufactured, every bearing, bushing, seal, and gasket replaced. It has made a lotta jaws drop at the other end of a long stretch of just about any surface conditions. It even smelled cool, VP 110(purple) and bean(castor) oil.
